About Us

Hartlepool Ambulance Charity exists to improve the health and wellbeing of Hartlepool residents through medical education, emergency readiness and community support. We provide public defibrillators, first aid and CPR training, and equip volunteers to serve as first responders, offering vital help at community events, in public spaces and during emergencies before professional services arrive. We also supply ambulances and pedal cycle ambulances, and provide life saving training to local taxi drivers and other community groups, helping to create a town-wide safety network.

Who We are

Hartlepool Ambulance Charity is a registered UK charity run entirely by dedicated volunteers and trustees. The charity was inspired in 2016 when our founder, Jason Anderson, helped save the life of an 11 month old baby who was choking. This event led to the creation of a community-led emergency response organisation for Hartlepool. From that point, a small group of first aiders came together to build a full service, offering training, patrolling public spaces and providing first aid cover at community events, creating a volunteer-led safety resource rooted in local care and support.

Hartlepool First Responder Sparks Charity After Saving Baby’s Life

In 2016, Jason Anderson came to the rescue when an 11‑month‑old baby stopped breathing in a busy shopping centre.
His quick action, including CPR and first‑aid response, helped save the baby’s life and highlighted a gap in local emergency support.
That life‑saving incident inspired Jason and others to establish the charity, laying the foundation for a volunteer‑led emergency response service for the town.

Local fundraising group ensures continuity of services

The Hartlepool Buffs (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes) raised and donated over £1,000 to HAC, supporting their voluntary first‑aid work and helping cover the charity’s running costs to ensure continued safety, training and emergency readiness for the town.

Community funding enables night‑time patrols

In 2025, local business Utilita Energy Hub donated £220 to Hartlepool Ambulance Charity to support their evening patrols, helping maintain availability of first-aid cover and CPR/defib training in the town’s night‑time economy.

Hartlepool First Responder Saves Toddler’s Life

In October 2021, Jason Anderson responded to a call in the middle of the night, a toddler had stopped breathing. He rushed to help, administered emergency care (including oxygen and use of a child-sized bag valve mask), and sustained breathing until paramedics arrived. The child recovered and later returned home safely.
